A new statue of Eros, the Greek god of love, will be unveiled in Lancashire after the former figure had to be treated for a broken ankle. The aluminium statue in Fleetwood is an exact replica of the London original, but was removed last year after it sustained irreparable damage.
Experts said the sea air and salty water had caused the decay.
Now a new version, cast in bronze, will be erected in the seaside resort on Wednesday.
'Splendid addition'
It is a gift to the town from the Lofthouse family, which makes the famous Fisherman's Friend sweets.
The old statue was bought by Doreen Lofthouse, who loaned it to the town.
The new version, to be unveiled on Wednesday, has been donated by Mrs Lofthouse who says she is "delighted" that Eros will be back.
It will face in a different direction to avoid coastal damage.
Councillor Russell Forsyth, Wyre Council leader, said: "People have missed Eros because the statue has become so much a part of Fleetwood and the Wyre area."
