Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay is backing Sal's Place |
A pioneering new centre for the victims of abuse is officially launched in Lancaster on Friday. Sal's Place, on St Leonardgate, is the first of its kind in Lancashire, giving female and male victims help and information under one roof.
Sal's Place stands for safe at last and is described as pioneering by the different agencies it brings together to tackle the problem.
North Lancashire has the highest figure in the county for domestic abuse.
The centre brings together police, social services, Victim Support, Sure Start and Lancaster and District Women's Aid to provide a one stop shop for the victims of domestic violence and abuse.
It received celebrity backing recently from Coronation Street actress Sally Lyndsay whose character Shelley is a victim of domestic abuse in the soap.
"I know from the reaction I've had that this is something a lot of people - men and women - have to put up with in their everyday lives and it must be very hard for them," she said.
