Blackpool is marking the 60th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day |
A group of Lancashire schoolchildren are to spend a day at the cinema to experience a taste of war-time. Blackpool Council is hiring a cinema which will be decked out with sandbags and posters. Children will hear war-time sounds and watch archive film.
The town's council is using a 6,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to pay for the event for 2,000 pupils.
A series of events is planned for July to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
The schoolchildren will also be able to talk directly to veterans of the war.
VE Day marks 8 May 1945, when Germany formally surrendered to the Allies. The Japanese surrender, marked by VJ Day, followed three months later on 15 August.
