The Popemobile was donated to the museum in 1988 |
A museum says it expects to be inundated with visitors flocking to see the Popemobile which the late John Paul II used to travel around the UK. The distinctive white vehicle was used on his official trips, becoming an iconic image of his visit.
The UK version was built by Leyland and donated to the British Commercial Vehicle Museum, in Leyland, Lancashire.
The museum said it had received several inquiries about the vehicle since the Pope's death on Saturday.
'Lot of interest'
The Pope used the vehicle for his visit in 1982, when huge crowds gathered along the route of his processions to catch a glimpse of the Holy Father.
Paulette Abrahams, museum manager, said: "When the Pope visited the country the Popemobile was made by Leyland Trucks and it was donated to the museum in 1988.
"I know we'll get a lot of interest in it."
The museum is open on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
