Large blaze at processing plant
More than 30 firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, tackled a large fire at a food processing plant.

Workers at the Nightingale Hall fats and proteins plant in Quernmore Road, Lancaster, reported hearing an explosion on Monday morning.

It caused a cloud of thick acrid smoke to billow out from one of the processing buildings of the plant.

Six fire engines in total were called to deal with the blaze, which was brought under control before noon.
