Birds, animals, insects and flowers call the cemetery home |
A night time bat walk is being held in a Lancashire cemetery, just ahead of the spooky celebration of Halloween. The walk, which will be held at Preston cemetery on Wednesday, is aimed at finding out more about the bats that make the New Hall Lane base their home.
The cemetery covers 75 acres and is also home to many other birds, animals, insects and flowers.
Councillor John Swindells said it was a chance to learn about a different side to the cemetery.
"It's surprising to think of the cemetery as a place where animal and plant life is very much at home."
"We all associate the cemetery with death and memories of past friends and relatives but this walk is a chance to learn about a different side to the cemetery and all the bats and other wildlife that live there."
Pam Duncanson, cemetery manager, added: "It's a free event and everyone is welcome.
"Don't be scared - come along and find out more about the bats and the other creatures that live in the cemetery."
