Bed cuts 'will not hit patients'
Royal Lancaster Infirmary
The Royal Lancaster Infirmary will be affected by the cuts
An NHS trust has said proposals to cut up to 130 beds will not damage the quality of patient care.

Morecambe Bay Hospitals Trust, which runs hospitals in north Lancashire and south Cumbria, is considering the cuts to tackle financial problems.

The trust said it needed to cut beds at its three hospitals - Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.

But chief operating officer Kevin McGee said patients would not be affected.

He said: "If you compare the number of beds that we have to comparable organisations in terms of patient flows, in terms of income... we actually have a lot more beds.

"So we believe we can actually reduce the number of beds in the organisation without impacting directly on patient care in any way."
