Blackpool wants to revamp most of its promenade
Plans for a major upgrade of sea defences on the Lancashire coast have moved a step closer.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) says it is likely to fund two projects - one in Blackpool and the other in Cleveleys.

Wyre Council hopes to safeguard homes on a 700m stretch while Blackpool hopes to revamp the sea wall from South Pier to just past North Pier.

Final Defra approval could come before the end of the year.

Earlier this week Blackpool's councillors heard the redesign of the wall - from South Pier to Cocker Square - would cost 60m.

The major share of the cash for both schemes would come from Defra which has confirmed they are likely to get the cash.
