Patient dies from Legionella bug
A man who contracted Legionnaire's disease has died in hospital.

The patient was being treated in the intensive care unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Tests are continuing to find out how he caught the disease. Environmental health officers and the Health Protection Agency are involved.

Another patient diagnosed with a different strain of the Legionnella bacteria has recovered but is still being treated for another illness.

The two cases are not connected.

Legionnaire's disease is most often contracted by inhaling mist from various water sources.

If the bacteria reaches the lungs it can cause Legionnaire's.

The disease can only be contracted from a contaminated water system. It cannot be passed from one person to another.
