Plans for 13m airport takeover
Blackpool Airport
Cityhopper plan to increase European flights
Blackpool Council wants to sell the resort's airport in a 13m takeover, it has been announced.

The authority hopes handing the airport over will increase passenger numbers, create new jobs and reduce the annual subsidy provided by the council.

Airport operator Cityhopper, which is lined up for the takeover, plans to increase European flights and significantly improve the terminal.

The proposal will go before a full council meeting next Wednesday.

Councillor Roy Fisher, Leader of Blackpool Council, said: "The sale of Blackpool Airport once agreed by the Executive and Full Council on June 9, will be great news for everyone in Blackpool.

"It really is a win, win, win situation.

"It will mean more jobs for local people along with more travel opportunities for the region and a saving to the council of over 1m a year."
