Blackpool's 'Sale of the Century'
The Pleasure Beach at Blackpool
Dozens of Pleasure Beach treasures are up for grabs
Up to 100 items from Blackpool Pleasure Beach are to go under the hammer on Friday to raise money for the children's charity UNICEF.

Among the lots being auctioned is the Big Dipper seat which Richard Rodriguez sat in for 2,000 hours in order to win a place in the record books.

Also for sale are Irn Bru Revolution car bodies, a log flume boat and a piece of the Pepsi Max Big One track.

The auction has been hailed as a chance to "own a piece of Blackpool history."

As the UK's favourite free tourist attraction, auction organisers are hoping the sale will attract a lot of attention.

World Record

Established more than 100 years ago, the beach boasts 145 attractions.

One of the star items up for sale is the Big Dipper seat which helped Richard Rodriguez win a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

He ate, drank and slept in a covered carriage at the centre of the rollercoaster for more than 2,000 hours back in June 2000.

Dodgem cars, ride signs, ride wheels and height boards will also be up for grabs.

Organisers say a proportion of all the money raised will go to the children's charity UNICEF, one of several charities the Pleasure Beach supports.

Spokesman Geoffrey Thompson said: "This is a great opportunity for theme park enthusiasts, collectors and all our visitors to own a piece of Pleasure Beach history and raise funds for a very worthy cause."
