Illustrator Quentin Blake was due to be in Lancashire on Friday to officially open an exhibition marking his 50 years in print. The work of Blake is on show in Preston, the only place it can be seen outside London.
He is best known for his collaborative work with children's authors like the renowned Roald Dahl.
His work is on show at the Harris Museum, which said "classic works for adults and children" are on show.
Senior exhibitions officer James Green said: "Quentin's work has been popular with generations of adults and children.
"His style is instantly familiar and his images are full of colour, inventiveness and movement."
Blake's first published illustration was carried in Punch in 1949, while he was still at school.
He became an OBE in the 1990s and was appointed the UK's first Children's Laureate in 1999.
