Crackdown on youth alcohol abuse
Young people on the streets
The police want to crack down on anti-social behaviour
Special patrols to tackle alcohol-related nuisance in parts of south Ribble are being carried out by police.

More than 40 letters have already been sent to parents as part of Lancashire Police's Operation Curtail.

Police have been out across Lostock Hall, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge and Higher Walton at hotspots where youths are known to gather and drink alcohol.

Dozens of opened drinks have been poured away and more than 40 cans and bottles of alcohol seized.

Warning letters

Forty-one youth referral forms submitted, which mean that letters are sent out to parents informing them of what their children have been doing.

On one night, more than 100 young people gathered on a play area near Walton Park and could be heard screaming and using abusive language.

One was arrested for being drunk and disorderly and damaging a police vehicle, while the rest of the group was dispersed.

Police have pledged to continue the operation, using covert tactics to gather evidence and prevent anti-social behaviour
