Charlie plays Eric 20 years after the comedian's death |
A young dancer from Lancashire is playing the role of comedy genius Eric Morecambe in a special BBC One TV documentary to be shown on Sunday. It traces Eric's rise to stardom from his early, humble beginnings in his home town of Morecambe.
Charlie Bolton, 12, from the Ribble Valley will play the young Eric.
It is 20 years since the comic died, but he remains one of Britain's best-loved stars and a hero to many people in his home town.
'A lovely mover'
As a child, Eric's showbiz talents were already evident.
His tap dancing teacher described him as "a lovely mover".
On the road to becoming the famous Eric Morecambe he danced in many public places, including on a billiard table at Torrisholme British Legion.
The scenes will be recreated with Charlie in the starring role as the young Eric in the BBC documentary, 'Local Hero: Eric Morecambe', to be screened on Sunday on BBC One at 1325 GMT.
