Homes hit by power cut
About 600 homes were left without electricity in Lancashire after heavy snowfall brought down power lines.

Properties in Gisburn, Whitewall, St Andrews and St Oswalds lost their power at about 2000 GMT on Wednesday, say United Utilities.

The company said it thought heavy snowfall had caused the power cut.

Its engineers experienced problems getting to some of the lines due to the weather.

But the firm said it hoped to reconnect supplies by the evening.
