Some of the biggest names in British sport gathered at Manchester's Midland Hotel to hear who the public had voted for in BBC North West Tonight's Sports Awards. Sports Personality of the Year went to cricketer Andrew Flintoff, who's currently on tour with England in Sri Lanka.
The delighted star said: "Thank you very much. I'm very honoured to receive this prestigious award.
"I've been lucky to play in successful Lancashire and England sides."
"Unsung heroes"
Manchester United's Ruud Van Nistelrooy won Footballer of the Year, beating off strong competition from Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Everton star Wayne Rooney .
Manchester United and England legend, Sir Bobby Charlton received a Hall of Fame award.
Best Rugby League player went to Wigan's Brian Carny, while World Cup winner Jason Robinson, who plays for Sale Sharks, received a special award for outstanding achievement.
But it wasn't just celebrities who were winning awards.
Sixty-seven-year old John Doyle from Liverpool - who's managed local children's football teams for 30 years, was presented with the Unsung Hero of the Year prize.
