Most of the animals found were small dogs

The RSPCA was due to make a nationwide appeal for new owners of the animals, following the rescue in September.

The rescue of 244 dogs, 16 parrots, seven cats, a rabbit and a chinchilla, from the house in Silverdale, near Carnforth, was the biggest single seizure in the charity's history.

Their original owners are facing legal action following the rescue, which involved 26 RSPCA staff, on 10 September.

The haul of dogs included shih-tzus, dachshunds, lhasa apsos, bearded collies, corgis, chihuahuas, poodles, pekinese and Yorkshire terriers.

Birds including a macaw, Amazonian parrot and an African Grey, were also found.

Centres around the North West and beyond have been looking after the animals since they were rescued.

An RSPCA spokesperson stressed that any potential owners should "think carefully" beforehand about the responsibilities involved.
