David Bellamy said windfarms were not environmentally friendly |
The naturalist David Bellamy has criticised plans to build several windfarms in Lancashire. Proposals have been submitted for turbines to be built at Dunnockshaw and Scout Moor in the east of the county and off the Fylde coast.
Professor Bellamy said windfarms elsewhere had shown that they were not the most environmentally friendly way to generate electricity.
His comments came days after a Mori poll found most people living near the Scout Moor site - on the border of Rossendale and Greater Manchester - backed the plans.
Professor Bellamy said: "The big windfarm in the middle of Wales only saved half the amount of carbon dioxide that a jumbo jet uses.
"It's daft. It's just a way of making lots and lots of money out of the tax payer.
"It's not a green form of energy, it's chopping birds up, it's chopping bats up and it is ruining a lot of people's lifestyles."
