End of Tornado era
Tornado GR4
The aircraft was used in the recent war in Iraq
Aerospace workers in Lancashire marked the end of an era with the delivery of the final Tornado GR4 aircraft to the Royal Air Force.

The updated plane, which was used to fire cruise missiles during the war in Iraq, was handed over at the BAE Systems plant in Warton on Tuesday.

The BAE Systems programme to develop the more advanced Tornado GR4 from the original Tornado attack aircraft cost about 1bn.

The more sophisticated version was adapted to fire advanced Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

BAE Systems says during the recent war in Iraq the GR4 did fire several cruise missiles.

The Tornado GR4 programme began in July 1994 and the first aircraft was handed over three years later.
