Olympic stars hit Kent fairways for Dame Kelly charity

Pinsent and Redgrave hold nine Olympic golds between them

Olympic rowing gold medallists Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent are among sports stars hitting the fairways in Kent for charity.

About 20 athletes are raising funds for fellow Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes's charity, the DKH Legacy Trust, which mentors young sports performers.

Other stars taking part at the London Golf Club in Ash include swimmer Mark Foster and runner Steve Cram.

Each one is part of a team of four competing in the tournament.

'Really proud'

Sir Matthew said he and Sir Steve had played golf against each other before.

"The golden rule is we play for huge money and then you never pay your debts," he said.

Also at the course on Wednesday were swimmers Karen Pickering and Steve Parry, skeleton bobsleigh competitor Shelley Rudman and Kent Cricketer Min Patel.

"I am really proud to be hosting our first charity golf day in my home county of Kent," said Dame Kelly.

"It will help us to raise the money we need to support more young people.

"I am really chuffed that so many world class sport stars have given up their time today to help us."
