Castle screening to promote 2012

Rochester Castle
The council hopes the film will help persuade athletes to train in the area

A Kent castle will become a giant cinema screen for first showing of a film celebrating the 2012 Olympics.

The specially-commissioned film about the Medway area will be projected on to Rochester Castle on Saturday evening.

The screening of Welcome To Medway, which was shot during the summer, will follow live music at 1900 BST and end with a fireworks display.

The event is part of the Cultural Olympiad, a four-year celebration of British culture before London 2012.

'Captures enthusiasm'

The local council hopes the film will help persuade athletes to train in the area.

The film features thousands of local people including Olympians, sports club members to participants of events such as Race For Life, the Dickens Festival, Mini Youth Games, Fuse Festival and the Medway Mile.

Medway 2012 Manager Bob Dimond said: "We wanted to celebrate the start of the Cultural Olympiad by inviting all Medway residents to come to the castle gardens to see the film, which vividly captures the enthusiasm of the community for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the warm welcome we can offer visitors to Medway."

It was produced by local film-maker Gary Weston and will be used to promote Medway nationally and internationally.
