Up to 150 jobs are to be lost at a BAE Systems site in Kent. The company, which employs 1,719 staff at its base in Rochester, will make the redundancies in engineering and manufacturing positions. It said there was a reduced need for software skills following the completion of development programmes and it needed to remain competitive. Bosses at BAE systems said they would try to redeploy and relocate staff affected by the announcement. Rochester site managing director Andy Start said: "We recognise that this is a difficult period for all employees and their families and we will continue to do everything practical to mitigate the number of compulsory job losses".
