Dozens of venues across Kent, Sussex and Surrey have been chosen as possible 2012 pre-games training camps.

The London Organising Committee (Locog) lists 36 sports facilities in Kent in a guide handed out to athletes at this year's games in Beijing.

In Sussex, 10 venues make the organising committee's shortlist, while 16 are in Surrey.

It points teams towards venues similar in conditions or standard to the ones in which they will be competing.

Dartford Judo Centre and Margate Beach are among sites included in the guide.

Gillingham Football Club and Brands Hatch in Kent and the Broad Bridge Leisure Centre and East Grinstead Sports Club in Sussex are also included.

The Yellow Wave beach sports centre in Brighton has also been chosen as a training venue for beach volleyball.

It is the first permanent beach sports centre in the UK and is staging both the National beach volleyball finals and the World Under-21 beach volleyball championships this year.

Kent County Council said the county had more sports facilities able to host international athletes ahead of the games than any other county.

"I am really delighted that Kent has been recognised so highly as a county able to host athletes of Olympic and Paralympic standard and congratulations to all those who were chosen, " councillor Mike Hill said.

He added: "We are reaching a very exciting stage in welcoming teams from a range of sports, visiting and training in Kent ahead of the games.

"This opportunity will promote Kent on a global scale and bring a boost to tourism and the local economy."

National judo teams from the United States, Canada and Wales used Dartford Dojo as a training base the week before competing in the Belgian Open earlier in February.

Locog, said that 750 venues expressed an interest in being included in its training camps brochure.
