A Kent school is celebrating after winning a national award for its work to get children involved in sport.

Teachers from the Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone were in Telford on Wednesday night to receive a Youth Sport Trust development award.

Dame Kelly Holmes presented a trophy for a website aimed at teachers in other local schools to help them take part in Shepway Sports Partnership.

"It is a fantastic achievement," said Harvey Grammar teacher Paul Castle.

Quality PE

Mr Castle, director of sports specialism, said the school oversaw the Shepway partnership for primary and secondary schools in Folkestone, Hythe and New Romney.

"When we set up our system in 2005, our target was to have 75% of pupils getting two hours of quality PE a week," he said.

"We have got 91% across Shepway achieving that now."

He said a massive effort was involved to set up staff training and school sports festivals and competitions.

"The website allows all the paperwork to be done online," he said.

"That is what the trophy is for and it highlights all the work that is being done."
