Alcohol controls planned for town
Chatham High Street
Alcohol-related anti-social behaviour is being clamped down on
Plans for an alcohol control zone in the streets of a Kent town are being drawn up in order to combat drink-related anti-social behaviour.

Medway Council's proposed restrictions for Chatham would see anyone consuming alcohol in public and causing a problem having their drink taken away.

People targeted could also be fined up to 500 or arrested.

An alcohol control zone was previously established by Medway Council in Rochester in 2003.

Residents and businesses are now being consulted on the new plans for Chatham.

The council said the restrictions could "help reduce anti-social behaviour and make a real difference for people living, working and shopping in the area".

Anyone who prevents a police officer or authorised council officer from confiscating or disposing of their alcohol could be arrested.
