Eileen Wilson died aged 83 at Maidstone Hospital in May |
A man whose mother died at Maidstone Hospital after contracting clostridium difficile has called for managers to take stronger action over cleaning. Paul Wilson, whose mother Eileen, 83, died in May, said the Kent hospital should "do something about it now".
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust said it has measures to fight the bug.
The trust said improvements were looked at whenever possible including cleaning products tested and recommended for use by the Health Protection Agency.
Mr Wilson's mother suffered a stroke in January and was recovering in hospital when she fell ill.
He said: "She was getting over it and having physiotherapy every day and then she came down with a virus, and was so weak she could no longer have physio.
'Not complacent'
"Then she went down with the virus again. They put her in a room on her own and she didn't recover."
Adding that he had found a cleaning product that claimed to kill the bug, he said: "All I know is what they advertise and what they print on the package, but I'm sure there are other solutions around."
The trust said while cleaning was important, being vigilant about hand washing was crucial, along with treating patients in ways that stop the bug from occurring in the first place.
It said: "All of these helped during the outbreak at Maidstone and cases of the infection are now back to levels hospitals would expect to see."
It added: "The trust is in no way complacent about infection control and is looking to make improvements whenever and wherever possible.
"This includes looking at even more effective cleaning products as they are tested and recommended for use by the Health Protection Agency nationally."
