Nearly 3,000 people took part in a charity walk across a new road bridge which will provide better links between the Isle of Sheppey and mainland Kent. An estimated �28,000 was raised for local charities in the 1.2km Bridgewalk across the new Sheppey Crossing.
The �100m bridge over The Swale is at the centre of a traffic scheme to improve access from the M2 to the port of Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey.
The charity event was the only chance for people to ever walk the bridge.
Pedestrians and cyclists will not be allowed to use the dual-carriageway route for safety reasons.

The Mayor of Swale, Councillor John Morris, said: "This was a thoroughly enjoyable event with a great sense of community.
"The new bridge is very impressive and the organisers did a wonderful job in ensuring that everyone had a good time."
Work began on the 115ft-high (35m) bridge in April 2004 and it is due to be officially opened this summer.
Until now, the Isle of Sheppey has been served by the Kingsferry Bridge which has to be raised when boats pass along The Swale.
