A woman from Kent who lost her husband to an asbestos-related cancer has spoken of her sadness after losing her new partner to the same disease. Speaking ahead of Les Alford's funeral, Avril Grant, from Hoo, said she wanted to raise awareness of mesothelioma.
The death of the mechanic happened five years after her husband Chris, who was an electrician, died.
"I can't believe I've yet again been with somebody who's got this cancer.. I just feel I've been jinxed," she said.
Mr Alford inhaled asbestos fibres during his 30-year career as a lorry driver and mechanic.
Mesothelioma can take between 10 and 50 years to develop and is usually associated with asbestos exposure.
