All aboard as new bus put on show
Dartford High Street
Dartford is linked into the new Fastrack bus service
Passengers had their first close-up look at the vehicles which will operate on a new bus service linking communities in north Kent.

The first phase of the 25-year Fastrack project, which will eventually stretch across Thameside, will be open for business on 26 March.

But one of the specially designed buses went on show on Sunday, along with three classic buses from the 1950s.

People were able to get on board to look around in Gravesend town centre.

Road network

"Members of the public will be able to compare the old and new vehicles," said a Fastrack spokesman.

The cavalcade of vehicles travelled into town from Gravesend and Northfleet football ground and park in New Road before returning at 1430 GMT.

Work began in 2004 on the network of roads which will be dedicated to Fastrack.

The first section will link Garrick Street, Gravesend with Northfleet, Swanscombe, Greenhithe, Darent Valley Hospital, Bluewater and Dartford, with buses leaving every 10 minutes.

The classic buses on display were a 1950 Maidstone and District reliance single decker, a 1950 London Transport double decker RT and a 1953 Green Line single decker RF.
