People in Medway are being asked to comment on proposals to extend the conservation area covering Chatham Naval Dockyard's historic defences. The Brompton Lines Conservation Area was established in 1982 to protect the area's maritime and military heritage.
Medway Council now wants to bring more architecturally and historically important sites under its protection.
The current preserved area contains barracks, bastions and forts which surrounded the dockyard.
They include the Chatham Lines - a system of 18th and 19th Century fortifications against a landward attack - and the 19th Century barracks which make up the Royal School of Military Engineering.
The proposed extension of the Brompton Lines Conservation Area would take in the Old Gun Wharf, which was the naval dockyard's ordnance depot, and the 1930s Kitchener Barracks.
The council would be able to control development on all the significant buildings and landscapes related to the dockyard.
