Police officers called the RSPCA out to reports of badger baiting |
Five Kent police officers and a crime scene investigator have received RSPCA awards after helping to catch a badger baiting gang last year. The commendations followed an incident where animal welfare officers were called by police to reports of four men digging at a badger sett in Swanley.
They were fined in court over offences of badger baiting and causing suffering to their dogs.
The RSPCA said police had helped put a stop to their "barbaric activity".
Steve Dockery, the animal charity's chief inspector for the West Kent area, said: "Without their help in preserving the scene and assisting with interviews, it could have been very difficult to bring these men to justice."
