Councillors called for house building to be slowed down
Southern Water has said it can meet customer demands in the next 25 years after calls for a government review on house building because of the drought.

Medway's Tory councillors wanted Thames Gateway building slowed down if supply could not meet demand.

The water company said a plan was in place to increase water available and ensure homes were built with water saving devices.

Paul Kent, capital maintenance manager, said the firm had a 25-year plan.

He said: "We believe that with our 25-year plan in operation, we will be able to meet the demands of customers.

"While we can understand the concerns of councillors, we can work with them to demonstrate that our customers needs are met by bringing on future resources at appropriate times in the future.

"As development takes place and population grows we will make step changes in the systems to make sure we can match those demands."
