The AA announced the loss of 1,300 jobs last October |
Members of the GMB union are holding a demonstration to protest against plans to close an AA centre in Kent. Up to 150 jobs will be lost when the centre in Maidstone closes in September as part of cost effective measures.
Staff were told by the motoring organisation last month that they were losing their jobs but everything would be done to offer them alternative work.
The GMB union is fighting to keep the office open, and has said customers will suffer.
'Call times longer'
Work from the call centre in Kent is due to be transferred to the AA's remaining centre in the West Midlands.
A statement from the union said the call centre in Oldbury was already under pressure with call times getting longer.
It said the Maidstone operation was a viable part of the business, and produced "good customer satisfaction".
But the AA's director of Human Resources Martin Sawkins said the centre at Allington would be closed in order to "bring all our resources to one place and improve the service".
He added that the company was working alongside the AA Democratic Union (AADU) to support staff during a "difficult situation".
The AA stressed that staff would be offered redeployment where possible and customer service would not be affected.
The demonstration is taking place outside the AA's offices in St Leonard's Avenue, Allington, Maidstone, on Tuesday morning.
