 Joe's cancer affects just 1% of leukaemia sufferers |
The family of a young leukaemia sufferer are waiting to find out if a bone marrow match has been found to save his life. Joe Cawse, four, from Maidstone in Kent, has a cancer that affects less than 1% of childhood leukaemia cases.
At present a complete bone marrow transplant is the only cure for Joe.
No match has been found from the nine million people on the bone marrow register so Joe's school, West Borough Primary, held a special clinic.
Anxious wait
Parents, teachers, friends and even complete strangers from the local area all came to give blood at the school on Tuesday to see if they could help find an exact match.
Although Joe's two brothers are a perfect match for each other, neither of them can help him.
His brother Ben said: "I went to the hospital quite a while ago and gave three bottles of blood, two big ones and one little one.
"It only hurt a bit."
The family now face an anxious wait to see if any of the latest samples are a match.
