A primary school in Kent which has taps that turn themselves off has been awarded a green flag and Eco-School status by the county council. Shorne Primary School, in Gravesend, has a group of Year 1 to Year 6 pupils who meet regularly to discuss environmental issues.
Council chairman John London is being shown their achievements during a tour on Monday.
The school is being recognised for running an eight-year recycling drive.
Environmental review
Energy-saving measures - under the motto "If in doubt, turn it out" - encourage pupils to always switch off lights and power sources.
The automatic turn-off taps are a feature of the school's cloakrooms.
Future plans include more recycling and composting initiatives, as well as the creation of outdoor areas dedicated to wildlife and trees.
Schools in Kent can only qualify for a green flag if they have a pupil-led team which has carried out an environmental review, identified action areas and begun working on them.
