Shepway 'could get airshow back'
Lydd Airport
Aircraft for the airshow could take off and land at Lydd Airport
The owners of Lydd Airport in Kent have announced they are seeking to revive the Shepway Airshow, which was axed last year because of budget problems.

The airshow used to attract tens of thousands of people, and was a free spectacle supported by the council.

Talks with Shepway District Council are understood to be at an early stage.

Zak Deir, managing director of the airport, said the show would still take place in Folkestone, and could happen as early as next year.

The Shepway Airshow was axed because it was not financially viable, but Mr Deir said he did not think it would cost the airport's owners as much as before.

He said: "We own an airport and we can offer facilities to the aircraft operating the airshow at a much cheaper rate, or maybe free of charge.

"We could still operate it at Folkestone with aircraft taking off and coming back to land at Lydd."

A new airshow is also planned for Margate later this year, with its organisers promising it will be the biggest one ever seen in Kent.
