The group wants to open a shop selling fresh products

Headcorn Sustainability Group said that action to investigate how a shop offering fresh produce could be funded was at the top of the agenda.

There are also plans to launch the Headcorn Banger sausage made by a Headcorn Farmers' Market stallholder.

The meeting was being held at Headcorn Village Hall on Saturday evening.

Green MEP for the South East Caroline Lucas is patron of the group, which was inspired by the success of the farmers' market.

"We surveyed local people to find out what other initiatives were wanted in the village," said project manager Penny Kemp.

"Top of the list came a number of environmental projects that would help people live more sustainable lives."

Sarah Farrow, chair of Headcorn Sustainability, said they were determined to make the shop work.

"We know that many people want to recycle more, save energy, buy local goods and fresh produce but do not have the available outlets."
