The new school is costing �30m

The Ramsgate School was once deemed the worst performing secondary school in England and a decision was made to turn it into a new "super school".

With funding from the government and Kent County Council, the new Marlow Academy is due to open in 2006.

Head teacher Ian Johnson said lessons will run from 0830 to 1700 GMT and the days of homework "will be over".

He added: "What you won't have in terms of its teaching and learning is a traditional school."

Pupils will have four sets of learning periods and it will be up to teachers when pupils can take breaks.

The Ramsgate School currently has 400 pupils but almost 1,100 students will attend the new academy.

Facilities will include a new library, two sports halls and a theatre.

Mr Johnson said: "In terms of facilities for the school and community it'll be second to none."

The Ramsgate School will become the Marlow Academy at the end of this school year and the new site will be ready in the summer of 2006.
