A number of ad-hoc freight services have used Manston in September |
Kent International Airport saw the return of an air cargo operator at the weekend and the first passenger flight since a new owner took over. Infratil now runs the Manston airport after the collapse of PlaneStation.
A charter passenger service left for Nice, France, on Saturday morning. However, it was not new business as the flight was arranged by PlaneStation.
On Sunday afternoon, MK Airlines flew a freight service into Manston for the first time in more than a year.
Infratil's Steve Fitzgerald said: "We are cautiously optimistic that we can secure more MK services in the future."
The freight airline withdrew from Kent International Airport in August 2004 and relocated its European operations.
A 747 jumbo jet flew in from Nairobi, Kenya, to deliver produce from East African suppliers.
Mr Fitzgerald said Newmarket Air Holidays was operating the passenger charter service to Nice on Saturday, as well as another one to Verona, Italy, on 23 October.
"Both were arranged by the airport's previous owners earlier this year," he added.
"We are currently talking to a number of scheduled and charter passenger airlines and will announce further services as and when deals are put in place.
"Overall, progress has been pleasing on all fronts and is in line with the acquisition business plan."
