Jamie Oliver style cafe to open

The new project will resemble Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" eatery
A restaurant employing chefs with no previous experience of cooking is set to open in Kent on Tuesday.

The Impressions cafe-restaurant in Margate is a new initiative designed to help people from a disadvantaged background find employment.

The chosen few will undergo weeks of training with an experienced head chef and the profits from the restaurant will go to help people in the town.

There are plans for similar restaurants in the area if it is successful.

'Deprived area'

Impressions will be similar to celebrity chef Jamie Oliver's restaurant "Fifteen", where he trained up disadvantaged youngsters to work in his London eatery.

The project is the brainchild of the Focus to Work Trust who offer disadvantaged groups the chance to gain practical work experience.

Steve Ralf, managing director of the trust, said: "It is a fantastic social enterprise that will reap dividends for disadvantaged communities and the town centre."

Leader of Kent County Council Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart described the restaurant as a crucial facility in what is one of the most deprived areas of Kent.

"Not only does this initiative help people from disadvantaged groups to lift themselves out of benefit dependency through meaningful employment but it is also a boost for the regeneration of Margate," he said.
