Mystery surrounds closure of pub
Pluckley
Tourists still come to the village to see where the series was filmed
People living in the Kent village of Pluckley have been left mystified by the sudden closure of the pub made famous by a hit comedy series.

The Black Horse played host to the stars and crew of the 1990s television adaptation of HE Bates' Darling Buds of May novels and was used in some scenes.

The pub has been at the heart of the village for five centuries but closed without any explanation on 1 November.

The brewery that owns it, Enterprise Inns, has refused to comment.

Empty glasses

Referring to the licensees that had been running it, a spokesman said the company did not discuss contractual agreements, but it was hoped the pub would be open again soon.

The Darling Buds of May turned the village, which is near Ashford, into a tourist attraction, and coaches full of fans still arrive to pay homage.

Empty glasses on tables waiting to be collected can still be seen through the pub's windows, with locals suggesting trade has been dropping off.

Parish councillor Alan Davies said: "It's a shame that a village that has had a famous pub for so long seems to have fallen foul of a bad summer."
