Gillingham's home is the 11,400-capacity Priestfield Stadium |
Gillingham Football Club has said it is extremely proud of its ground despite claims in a national newspaper that its stadium is the worst in Britain. Priestfield stadium was described as a "dump" which "never fails to live down to expectations" in an Observer poll.
It was also described as resembling a 1970s garage forecourt with poor food and steep prices in a "grotty town".
But in response, the club said the poll was very unfair, and seemed to have been based on one reporter's visit.
However, the article said its research was based on its own writers and editors' experience, and interviews with lots of people on internet chatrooms and in pubs.
In a statement, the club said the report was an attack on the town as much as on the ground.
