Workers voted on Wednesday 176 to 27 in favour of strike action |
Talks aimed at avoiding a strike by Eurostar maintenance workers made "significant progress" on Thursday, according to the train company. Workers belonging to the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) voted by 176 votes to 27 in favour of industrial action in a ballot on Wednesday.
RMT leader Bob Crow had said strike dates would be set on Friday if no progress was made in the dispute.
But a Eurostar spokesman said the talks had been "very constructive".
Consult members
The maintenance workers and engineers are in dispute with the cross-Channel rail firm over pay, travel concessions and working arrangements.
Following Thursday's talks the RMT is now set to consult its members and the executive will meet on Friday to decide its next move.
Mr Crow had warned on Wednesday that if strikes were held it was likely Eurostar customer service staff would be called out at the same time.
They took strike action last month in a separate dispute over pay and grading.
