Kerbside recycling scheme grows
A kerbside recycling scheme which already takes waste from 20,000 homes across Dover is being extended to a further 10,000 homes.

Black boxes are being supplied by the district council which will collect recyclable waste once a fortnight.

Currently, the authority takes about 35,000 tons to landfill each year.

Councillor Andrew Richardson said more kerbside collections should help people increase their levels of recycling and help the environment.

Route 'to be confirmed'

Boxes will be delivered to houses in September, together with details on how the scheme will operate.

The scheme is being extended to Whitfield, Temple Ewell, Lydden, Shepherdswell, Coldred, Guston, Capel-Le-Ferne, St Margaret's-at-Cliffe and River.

The council said parts of Dover will be incorporated, but that it is not possible to access all homes in those areas.

They are Maxton, Elms Vale, Buckland Estate, Folkestone Road, Old Park, Castle, Aycliffe, and Burgoyne Heights.

The exact route through Dover is still to be confirmed.
