Kelly Holmes first competed in the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996

Holmes won gold on Monday, to become Great Britain's first athletics champion of the Athens games.

She has also reached the final of the 1,500m - to be run on Saturday night - giving her a chance of a second medal.

The open top bus parade through Hildenborough and nearby Tonbridge will take place next Wednesday afternoon.

The 34-year-old, who is running in her third Olympics, knocked more than a second off her personal best time to win the 800m.

She then qualified comfortably through two rounds of the 1,500m to reach the final of that event.

The open-top bus parade on Wednesday will start at 1500 BST in her home town of Hildenborough, heading to Tonbridge, where it will parade up and down the High Street at about 1530 BST.

Holmes will then be taken to Tonbridge Castle for a welcome reception and public celebration, presided over by the deputy mayor.

Members of the public will get the chance to meet the Olympic champion and get her autograph on the Castle Lawn at about 1615 BST.

Official guests will include members of her family, her coach and representatives from Tonbridge School and Tonbridge Athletics Club, where she started her career.

A spokesman for Tonbridge and Malling Council said: "We hope as many people as possible will want to line the streets of Hildenborough and Tonbridge High Street to cheer Kelly on, once she is back on home ground."
