Litter and rubbish on the streets of Thanet will be cleared up |
A rapid response team has been set up in Thanet to crack down on problems such as vandalism and fly-tipping. Costing nearly 400,000, the scheme will see the team respond to calls made by members of the public to a hotline.
The Environmental Action Programme aims to tackle broken pavements, littering and dirty streets as well as graffiti, and damaged street furniture.
The team, funded by Thanet Council, will start work in Ramsgate and then move on to Margate and Cliftonville.
'Restore pride'
Councillor Martin Wise said: "We all know that Thanet is an excellent place to live, with a first class coastline, but there are issues which we know are of major importance to our residents and local businesses and we want to put them right.
"People have told us they want to see improvements being made to the appearance of the area and we have listened to their concerns, putting in place a programme which make a real difference to the community.
"We want to restore pride in our area and ensure visitors get the best possible impression of Thanet when they arrive here."
Other areas to be targeted are the A28 Canterbury Road between Birchington and Margate and the A256 between Westwood and Broadstairs.
The Streetline number is 01843 577777.
