Objections to school closure plan
Ripple School
The council proposes to close Ripple School by January 2005
More than 1,200 objections have been sent to Kent County Council over the planned closure of the county's smallest school, which has 35 pupils.

Now two meetings about the future of Ripple Primary School, Deal, have been delayed due to the level of objections, the council has said.

Campaigners are concerned a final decision on the school's future may not be made before the new school year.

Protesters fear parents may move pupils from Ripple because of the uncertainty.

The authority wants to close the school on grounds of cost and low achievement, but the families want it to stay open.

More than 100 people attended a first public meeting, but 50 more were unable to attend because of the size of the hall, and a second meeting was held.

Kent County Council has said that if even one person objects to the process, the decision over the school would be made by an independent arbiter.
