Drivers warned to hide keys

Police think one of the stolen cars was used in a ram-raid
Drivers have been warned not to leave their car keys on display in their homes after a series of burglaries across Kent.

Four cars worth a total of nearly 100,000 have been stolen by burglars in the past week.

Three cars, including a Mercedes and BMW, were stolen from Sevenoaks and a fourth was stolen from Canterbury.

Police have not said if the thefts are linked but have warned drivers to store their keys safely and out of sight.

Police in Canterbury believe one of the stolen vehicles, a BMW 525 estate worth 18,000, was taken to be used in a ram-raid.

The car was found abandoned in Tenterten but police think it was first driven into a shop in Godinton Park, Ashford.

The owner had not realised the car had been taken during the night until he started to search for his keys the next morning.

In another incident thieves fed a hook through the letter box of a house in Sevenoaks to snatch the car keys from a table.

A police spokesman said: "All drivers should take care where they leave their car keys when they arrive home.

"Modern vehicles are almost impossible steal without the keys so this is becoming an increasing problem, especially for owners of high value cars.

"In particular powerful, four wheel drive vehicles can be targeted by criminals who will then use the car to commit further crimes such as ram-raids."
