The farmer says many of his cows are now scared of human contact |
A Kent cattle farmer who says his animals have been coming under attack has offered a 1,000 reward in the hope of catching the people responsible. Gerry Minister said the cows on his organic farm have been targeted by joyriders who drive at the animals and chase them across fields.
One cow had to be destroyed after being left injured when it was apparently rammed by a vehicle.
Mr Minister said others have been left terrified of contact with human beings after a series of incidents and have lost weight as a result.
Damage to fences
He has offered the 1,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those behind the attacks on his herd.
The farmer said people in cars have been driving at the cows on Luddesdown Organic Farm in Cobham, causing them to stampede.
Mr Minister said: "We've lost one animal already, and it's probably cost us in the region of the 1,000 of the reward we're talking about with damage to the fences, etc.
"But the unquantifiable damage is that the remaining cattle would have lost a substantial amount of weight."
He said it was impossible to keep an eye on all of his land, due to the size of it.
"The area is quite large, 53 acres is the size of the field.
"It cannot all be seen from one place, if you were trying to monitor it you would need about five different vantage points in order to do so."
