Council to cut management posts

Up to 40 senior management posts are to be lost at Hull City Council over the next year, the authority has confirmed.

The council said the changes were part of a plan to cut overall management costs by 20% and would mean a saving of £3m per year.

It said it was cutting management posts to "protect the jobs of frontline staff who serve the public directly".

It said the posts would be cut over the next year, and it would try to find alternative jobs for affected staff.

The council's chief executive, Kim Ryley, said: "This reduction in management costs was highlighted in our budget savings plan earlier in the year. We must now move it forward over the next 12 months.

"It will initially involve a major cut in the number of senior management posts within the council, and we will take advantage of several vacant posts to help us achieve this, and to reduce the impact of the job losses on our current managers.

"It will mean that the senior posts we retain will have bigger roles and a wider range of responsibilities."
